The Ross Bridge Difference
Rising out of the pines in what used to be a rural no-man's land in
southern Jefferson County is a new development called Ross Bridge.
The area draws its name from James Taylor Ross, a Carolinian who
came to Alabama in 1858 to settle in the Oxmoor Valley. During the
Civil War, Ross allowed Rebel forces to build a railway supply line
through his land. The construction included a stone bridge built across
Ross Creek - thus the name Ross Bridge.
The $75 million resort and golf course, like other Robert Trent Jones
facilities, are investments of the Retirement Systems of Alabama. The
hotel is one of 130 Renaissance properties worldwide, part of the
